Juan Banuelas




My name is Juan Banuelas. I am Senior in Civil Engineering- Structures Option at Kansas State University (go Wildcats!!!). I am an active member of SHPE (Society of Hispanics in Professional Engineering) and ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineer ing). I also participate in the Concrete Canoe- which is a canoe made of concrete and we have to put it to test in a competition. I also am in Steel Bridge.. A bridge mad e from steel bars and compete against other schools to see which bridge can uphold a number of weight at certain circumstances. I plan to graduate in May 2013 hopefully.

I attended and graduated from Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in 2007. After that I went to KCKCC and graduated with an Associate's in Science in Pre-Professional Engineering in 2009. I was an active member and officer of Phi Theta Kappa (an international honorary society). I was also involved in Student Council, ISOL (International Society of Latinos), and co-founded two additional organizations: LEAP (Latinos Ethnic Awareness Program) and EPC (Engineering Physics Club)

I have been with Saturday Academy since 2002 (as a student, student-mentor, mentor, college intern, and now as an instructor). I also participated in Summer Science Academy (as student, counselor, and instructor). I have also participated in the number of programs under the Marcia's supervisions during my high school years such as Wednesdays Gardening, Monday Media,and  Poetry workshops.

I have also participated in the Trio programs such as Talent Search's Discover Technology and Career Horizons. Again, I was a student, peer helper, mentor, and staff now.

I like to play tennis, draw, and go to the the movies for fun. I have a total of 12 brothers and sisters (halves included). I am married for about 7 months now. My wife is with me in the picture (profile picture). She wants to be an Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Anesthesiologist. 

I am looking forward to a great year.
